Oil Pressure Gauges

An oil pressure gauge is an important tool in any engine, and Diesel Pro wants to make sure you know when to replace it. Obviously it is what helps you know if you have the right amount of oil in the engine itself. If you notice that your oil pressure warning light has come on, then the problem could be several things. There are a few easy things that you can do to identify the problem.

The first thing you should do is to make sure that your oil is at the appropriate level. Running an engine with low oil levels can seriously damage it, and you should refill it immediately if this is the problem.

If this is not the problem it is likely that your oil pressure gauge is not working correctly. There are a few easy ways to rule out this problem.  The first is to rev the engine. If you notice that there is no change in the oil pressure gauge, then it is most likely broken. You can also tell if your oil pressure gauge is working by simply running the engine. The oil pressure should be lower when it is idle, so when you put it into gear, the pressure should rise.  If you notice that the pressure doesn’t increase, then your oil pressure gauge might be broken. The same is true if your gauge is reading to high when it’s idling.

Make sure that you do not ignore your broken oil pressure gauge. It will help you identify more serious problems with your vehicle and should be replaced as soon as you can.
